Introduction to KryonOS
The Native JavaScript Operating System for ESP32 microcontrollers with 3D GUI and Cloud Fleet connectivity.
Note: Documentation on this website is currently under active development. Please refer to our GitHub Wiki in the meantime.
Introduction to KryonOS
KryonOS is a revolutionary open-source standalone JavaScript operating system designed specifically for ESP32 microcontrollers. Built upon the Duktape JS engine and FreeRTOS, KryonOS allows developers, makers, and IoT engineers to execute JavaScript applications, render rich touch GUIs on SPI TFT displays, and communicate seamlessly across cloud and local peer-to-peer networks.
Open Source Project
KryonOS is 100% free and open source. Star and contribute on GitHub (Haris16-code/KryonOS).
Key Capabilities
Standalone JavaScript Execution
Run full ES5.1+ JavaScript directly on ESP32 microcontrollers with hardware-accelerated bindings without any external node runtime.
3D and 2D Graphics Engine
Touch-screen window manager, widgets, and 3D wireframe graphics for ILI9341 2.8" and ST7789 displays.
Outbound Cloud Tunnel
Zero-port forwarding reverse long-polling tunnel linking devices to the web dashboard in under 100ms.
KryonBeam P2P Mesh
Decentralized microcontroller-to-microcontroller messaging with collision-free hardware handles.
Architecture Overview
FreeRTOS Dual-Core Subsystem
KryonOS operates on a multi-threaded FreeRTOS foundation:
- Core 0 (System & Network): Wi-Fi stack, Outbound Long-Polling tunnel, KryonBeam P2P networking, and background OTA sync.
- Core 1 (Engine & Display): Duktape JavaScript VM, Touch Driver, ILI9341 SPI frame renderer, and UI event loops.
